Simone Inzaghi feels that Inter Milan must reinforce their squad for next season given the fixture list getting even busier.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. He also gave his thoughts on strikers Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez.

Inter already play plenty of matches.

Between the league, the domestic cup competitions, and the Champions League, it is not abnormal for the Nerazzurri to play fifty or more matches in a campaign.

This season the total was 49. Last time around it was a whopping 57 as Inter reached the finals of both the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana.

That shows just how much the Nerazzurri must rely on their squad depth.

This evening’s match against Sassuolo showed how easy it is to lose a bit of steam, especially towards the end of a long season.

And the season certainly won’t be getting any shorter.

Next campaign, Inter will play in an expanded Champions League format – and then in the newly-expanded Club World Cup.

Simone Inzaghi: Inter Must Strengthen For More Matches

Of the expanding fixture list, Inzaghi commented that “It will be something new for us.”

“There will be the Club World Cup matches at the end of the regular season,” he noted.

“I read that it will be possible to have deeper squads for European competitions,” Inzaghi continued.

“We’re already working on that because we have to be ready to go again.”

The Inter coach noted that “We’ve already made two signings.” Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski are both set to arrive on free transfers.

“Credit is due to the club, that was hard at work even as we were fighting for the Scudetto.”

“Along with Marotta, Ausilio, and Baccin, we’re also scouting other players,” Inzaghi said.

“We’ll certainly have to strengthen our squad because the season will be a long one,” he added.

“Let’s hope that there aren’t many injuries like this season, when we were well-prepared.”

Inzaghi noted that “We have to calculate around the fact that a lot of players will be missing in preseason between the Euros and the Copa America.”

“We have to give them the rest they need before they come back,” the coach added.

“Particularly with the season starting earlier. Three weeks of rest will be necessary.”

And of strikers Arnautovic and Sanchez, Inzaghi said that “I told the club I’d like to start next season with the same players.”

“They’ve been important for us and have always made themselves available like the other player,” the coach said of the two backup strikers.

“I wouldn’t want to lose anyone. But then I know that the club has its needs.”

“But when we get back to work I’d like to have everyone available, because everyone has done a great job,” Inzaghi said.
