There are many stories about how Mark Cuban is arguably the greatest owner in NBA history. The latest came from former NBA player, Matt Barnes, who told the story of how Cuban helped him reach his twin boys' basketball game on time.
"Man, just got back from Memphis. First leg of EYBL, team played really well. Twins played really well, man... So our flight got delayed out of LA, missed the connect, and wouldn't have got us in until after the first game because we had a Friday night game.
"I'm like, 'I can't miss my sons' first EYBL game.' So I hit Mark Cuban as I was sitting in the airport, and motherf----- hit me back in less than 30 seconds. He put me with some lady, that connected me to another lady and sh*t. An hour later, I'm on a PJ to Memphis, man.
"So definitely shout out Mark Cuban and his team, man. You guys are amazing. It was a cold call, too. Like, I hadn't talked to Mark in a minute, so, shout out to Mark Cuban, man. You see why he's one of the best in the game."
This is an amazing story by Barnes. The fact that he had not spoken to Cuban in a long time, yet, Cuban did not hesitate to help him, shows the true character of Mark Cuban.
To show how much players respect Cuban, look at Kyrie Irving. The 2016 NBA champion famously had issues with Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai when Irving played in Brooklyn. Once traded to Dallas, there's been nothing but love between Irving and Cuban.
Mark Cuban's Net Worth
Mark Cuban is a rich man, everyone knows this. To be exact, Cuban is worth $5.4 billion as of 2024. How did Cuban gain such a wealthy net worth?
It all started when he left college and he co-founded MicroSolutions, which he later sold to CompuServe, a subsidiary of H&R Block. Later, he co-founded Broadcast.com, which he later sold to Yahoo! Cuban made $6 million off of the MicroSolutions deal and $5.7 billion in Yahoo! stock for the sale of Broadcast.com.
After this historic sale, Cuban entered the realm of basketball by purchasing the Dallas Mavericks in 2000 for $285 million. He recently sold his majority share in 2023 for $3.5 billion.
As you can see, Cuban is a very smart businessman who not only makes good decisions, but he's also not afraid to lend a helping hand when needed. One of the biggest cases of this was when Cuban helped send former Mavs player, Delonte West, to rehab after West was spotted begging for money on the streets of Dallas.
So, it's no wonder that Cuban would help Barnes out by sending him a private jet, just so he could watch his twins' basketball game. Cuban is truly a "player's owner" and places them above the money.
If only other owners could be as great as Cuban. But they're not, which only makes Mark Cuban even more impressive as an owner.
